Antique Rosewood Lion Claw Dressing Table Desk

Let me introduce you to Rosie she originally was a dressing table but over the years has had the misfortune of losing her mirrors. She comes with four veneer fronted drawers, two large drawers at the top with two smaller drawers sitting either side of her cute curvy knee hole, with plenty of storage for all your accessories. The top is a stunning piece of solid Rosewood no veneer here. And the absolute favourite part for me here is these beautiful curvy cabriole legs with fabulous lion carved claw feet. Wow love them.

So here’s what was done to the lovely Rosie, she was cleaned and sanded to reveal that lovely grain, at this point I knew that her top needed to be on show, not hiding under any paint. As I had found a gem, why not dress her up, so I chose the opulent colours of Amethyst and Sapphire give her some depth especially them legs, (getting a-bit carried away now) I used Unicorn Spit which is a paint gel stain all in one depending upon how you use it. I used a combination of Blue Thunder and Zia Teal to get this gorgeous Blue colour and Purple Hill Majesty a beautiful rich colour, (don’t you just love the names).
The legs and underside was painted in a layers, and her body given a wash effect allowing a teasing glimpse of wood.

Rosies internals, drawers and top were all treated with Linseed Oil, she needed two coats, you want her beautiful inside as well as outside. At this point I decided to give her drawers a bit more love and used a plum colour wash.
Waited a few days before adding several coats of clear wax to seal, gold wax was used to highlight her carved detailing and around the edges of knee hole.
Rosies drawer handles were not left out they were cleaned and painted gold to match her highlighted areas.

In one light she looks dark and moody and in another she is bright and lush.
Rosie can be used as a dressing table console table or even add a bit of glamour to your home office.
